Dear Volta Parents and Families,
Happy New Year! I hope that you each had a wonderful Winter Break. We are looking forward to welcoming back your children to school this week. Our building has been cleaned and prepared for their arrival by our hardworking staff and we are excited to kick-off the New Year with engaging lessons and rigorous instruction in each of our classrooms! During the break, we continued the work on the refinished seating in the Auditorium and anticipate it being done by the end of January!
We will be having a Volta Spirit Week on January 16th-19th. Be sure to review the Spirit Week clothing recommendations on our website!
As we continue to work in partnership with one another, please keep in mind the following:
1) Attendance in January often sees a decrease due to weather and sickness. Please try your best to have your child come to school everyday and on time. School begins at 8:00 AM. In addition, it is critical that students come to school prepared for the cold weather with winter coats, hats, scarfs and gloves/mittens.
2) Check in with your child and teacher regarding progress on assignments, projects, and tests. If you have not signed up for Parent Portal, we strongly recommend you take advantage of this useful tool for communicating grades between teacher, parent and student. Information on signing up is on our school website.
3) Develop a family routine that includes reading to your children daily, in any language. By establishing an importance on reading, you send a message to your children that literacy is a fundamental skill that can be fun and enjoyable.
4) Ask your children how their school day went. Have conversations about what they are learning, how they feel about school and any issues or concerns they may be experiencing. When a more serious issue arises, please contact your child's teacher or myself.
The dedicated Volta staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to a wonderful 2018 together!
